I wish I could show you my writing space. We recently moved our "office" to the living room so the boys could have their own rooms, and use the computer with us present. Behind me sits an unused treadmill. To my left are 3, yes THREE, couches, a large TV, two side tables with lamps. It is not a quiet space by any means. Today happens to be a teacher in-service day, which means both of my boys are home. While I write this, they are playing Mario Cart, and it is LOUD.
Somehow, in the midst of what would normally make me feel chaotic, I am totally at peace. The promise we can rest in today is that God will quiet us by His love. Zephaniah 3:17 "The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing."
I'm beyond grateful for a God who sees the chaos in my life and quiets me by His love. Loud doesn't necessarily have to be our current location or who is in our presence. Loud, for me, often comes in the form of facebook, twitter, instagram, email, busy-ness, and ultimately anything that distracts me from spending time with God or what He's laid on my heart to do. I am often in a loud state of mind.
Today, in the midst of the noise, let's set our hearts on Him. Let's turn down the volume and the demands we place on ourselves to be ever-present in all aspects of life. Living that life will stress us out and wear us down.
Will you join me in turning down the volume today? Let's fix our eyes on Jesus together. Imagine what we could accomplish when we link arms together to focus on Him. Will you let Him quiet you by His love today?

Oh friend... so much yes and amen here! And that verse? One of my favorites! Love this!
ReplyDeleteIt's one of my favorites, too, friend. Thanks so much for stopping by today!
ReplyDeleteI have such a hard time sitting in quiet...I always have the TV on, I might not be really watching it but it is on, my phone is always right beside me and even at work I am always listening to podcasts...maybe if I just start with 15 minutes of QUIET...
ReplyDeleteso great of you to give up your office for your sons :) I share my office with the laundry room, which is great when no laundry is being done but can get rather loud :)
commenting again so I can click notify so I can see when you reply...
DeleteIf we had a laundry room, I'm pretty sure we would have moved it in there! Ha! We have a tiny 1500 sq ft home, so space is at a premium. Our boys shared a room since our youngest was born. I'm glad they have their own space though. But yes, quiet comes in so many ways. For me, it's more of the noise from social media that can overwhelm me and keep me from hearing from Him. Hugs, girlie!
