He is Our Refuge and Strength

The news today is bleak and grim without much hope.  There will be no rest for the weary today if you think about the possibility of disease, earthquakes, wars, stock market crashes, and a long list of other doomsday headlines.  Watch for just ten minutes and fear can try to grip you.

Today, I'm thankful for this promise from God.  No matter what is going on around me or even to me, God is my refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Psalm 46:1  It's good to be knowledgeable about what is going on here, but it's better to know God is present and actively at work in us.  He provides shelter to us in our distress.

Fear doesn't have to take hold in our hearts and control our thoughts or actions.  When we walk in the presence of God, we can walk in peace.  Further down, in verse 10 of Psalm 46, God says "Be still and know that I am God."  Not only can we rest in He is our refuge and strength, but know that He IS GOD!

When I think of God, I think of majesty and how big He must be to have created everything.  How powerful His words are that He just spoke and it came to be.  I think if anyone can handle the "news" today, God can.  Let me encourage your heart today.  If you've been filled with fear and anxiety over the world news, or even your own personal news, rest in knowing that God is YOUR refuge and strength.  He is present to help you in trouble.  Be still and know that He is God.
