Be Anxious for Nothing

At night, when my husband and I get into bed, we have small talk.  We talk about the little things, and sometimes the big things.  My husband is a great sounding board for me.  I can make a bigger issue out of small things, and he has a way of bringing back to the center.  He often calms my anxiety and fears about things that may or may not happen.  I cherish this time with just the two of us, and it's not usually stuff I would talk about with other people.

Seeking after God requires the same kind of intimacy from us.  Having time in prayer allows us to give Him our hearts, our worries, our joys, and in return, it opens the door for our hearts to hear from Him.  Prayer is vital in knowing how God is leading us in our day to day lives.  We pray, He hears.  We pray, we listen.

Prayer is so much more than just telling God our problems and asking Him to fix them.  Prayer is the foundation for communicating with God Himself.  It is us getting quiet and readying our hearts for what He will say to us through prayer, bible study or worship.  It gets us ready for our day to know when He's sending someone across our path.  God's promise to us is we will find rest through His peace when we give our worries to Him.

Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Prayer brings us into God's presence.  It's through practicing prayer regularly that our lives change.  When we seek Him through prayer, we will find Him.  We can rest and be thankful that the God of all creation hears us, He sees us and He cares for us.

What are you anxious about?  Have you prayed today?  If you would like me to pray for you specifically about something, email me or leave a comment.  I would love to lift you up in prayer.

  1. "It gets us ready for our day to know when He's sending someone across our path." I like that idea...I have a hard time getting up any earlier than it would take me to get ready...but prayer has become difficult for me...I need to do it more I want to do it more!

Keep up the great posts :)

    2. You know what I've recently started to realize? We don't need to get up earlier to pray. We can pray at any time throughout our day, and God hears us just the same. I think it's just making a habit of leaning in to Him and praying His promises for our lives. Sometimes, all I can pray is "Help me, Lord." And, He really does listen!

  2. I love this, Chandra! It is the same way with me and my husband. And believe it or not, I have a post it note stuck to my work computer that says "have you prayed today?" :)

If you would, when it comes to mind, pray for me and my work? I have an incredibly stressful job as a social worker, and lately it has me feeling really overwhelmed and looking for a way out. I had a meeting last week with a couple that directs a Christian counseling agency, and they hope to have some employment opportunities at the beginning of 2015. Our meeting could not have gone better, and I'm looking forward to building the relationship and exploring what the future may hold.

    1. Oh Erin, I will definitely lift you up in prayer, girl! I totally get how overwhelming that could be. I have a few friends in social work, and I volunteer at a place that serves a lot of people in need. It can certainly wear on you over time. Praying that God opens those doors for you to move on and be refreshed in your work! Hugs, friend!
